英語学習は孤独な趣味？

When I study English, I sometimes feel it needs a lot of process to do by myself. For example you need to remember tons of vocabularies and it takes thousands of hours. In general you remember those words by yourself.

英語を勉強していると、自分一人でやらないといけないことが意外と多いなと感じることがある。たとえばある一定以上の語彙は覚えないとどうしようもないし、これがまずめっちゃ時間かかる。たいていは一人で孤独に覚えるのが普通だろう。

And as for Ondoku that I’m always doing for improving my English, watching foreign movies and studying for TOEIC or something, in all of these process, you need to be alone. It might not be always alone, but most of the time, you have to focus on practicing and building vocabularies.

僕がずっとやってる音読や、海外ドラマを見たりTOEICや英検などの勉強をすることに関しても、すべての過程で自分一人でそれに費やす時間はとても多い。まあいつもいつも一人で勉強しているとは限らないだろうが、でもやっぱり単語覚えたり文法の勉強したりってのは一人でやるしかないもんだと思う。

Sometimes when I focus on doing something for English alone for a while, I come to realize like “What the hell! Don’t I want to study English to communicate with other people?” A balance between self-study and just showing up in a situation where you can hear actual English and use that is difficult though, you have to remember that English is more of an actual thing in real life, less of a written based one.

でもときどき、しばらくのあいだ英語の勉強をしていると、もっといろんな人とコミュニケーションをとるために英語勉強してるのになんでこんなにずっと孤独に勉強してんだ？と疑問を感じることがある 笑

一人で勉強するのと、実際に英語を話すシチュエーションに身を置くバランスって難しいけど、やっぱり英語を使うってのは机の上じゃなくもっと実際的なものだということを忘れちゃいけない。

It even might depend on each individual whose progress varies. But you need to keep in mind that English study tends to easily to be lonely hobby, so don’t satisfy yourself with just memorizing, watching, listening, doing just TOEIC or Eiken things and stuff.

まあそれも各々の学習の進捗状況にもよるとは思うんだけど。実は英語に限らず語学の勉強ってのはともすれば孤独な趣味になりがちだから、単語覚えたり見たり聞いたり資格の勉強することで満足せずに外に出て行かないといけないよね。
